Meet the CEO My formal name is James but most know me as Jimi. I was born in Lebanon PA. I’ve always found it to enjoyable meeting new people and adapting to new environments probably due to the fact that while growing up I went to 3 different schools. I find that by meeting new people I get to tell all my best stories over and over again without sounding redundant. Maybe I just find that talking about all the greatest moments in my life not only helps me helps me enjoy it better, it helps me to define and appreciate the road I’m traveling. I remember attending a business seminar a couple of years ago and the speaker making a particular comment that set my memory into a tail spin. I never really thought of myself as an entrepreneur even though others seemed to place that label on me. I just saw myself as someone in search of a little freedom and something a little bit better than the norm. The comment alluded to the fact that being an entrepreneur is not necessarily a choice that people make but that it is something they are born with. Immediately after his comment my mind began a trip down memory lane. I started to think about my life and try to identify whether or not this actually applied to me. Almost instantaneously I had a flashback of an era that I had completely forgotten about… I remembered that sometime when I was in 5th or 6th grade I received a magazine in the mail for the “Captain America Club”. I had to smile because I realized that this was my first business venture. In a nut shell I used to sell stationary products door to door and I could either select prizes based on total sales volume or keep a percent of the cash from the sales. I remember the first prize I chose to gun for vividly; it was a fishing rod and tackle box. My friends and I used to go to this pond fishing every Saturday and into the summer break from school almost daily. I was the only one who didn’t have fishing gear. I don’t remember exactly how long this went on but it seemed like eternity sitting around that cotton-pickin pond for hours watching every one try to catch the 24″ monster carp that lived there. Within a month after joining the club I had my fishing rod along with a fully stocked tackle box. Never caught that carp but man that was a sweet feeling! Not sure this is turning out to be your typical about page but never the less if you’re still reading, I suppose its accomplishing something. About 2 years after I graduated high school I decided to join the military the ARMY to be exact. I served 4 years at Fort Hood Texas as a construction equipment operator. I have a lot of found moments from those days, some of which I might ad at a later date after I get this page up and running. I am a music enthusiast and a drummer for over 20 years. I have been a long time standing volunteer on the Berks Jazz Fest. Many people don’t realize that this festival is one of the largest on the east coast. I have an Associates degree in business management and took many minor courses in computers. I trained at the Olympic training center in Colorado to become a professional certified bicycle mechanic. What in the world does that entitle me to you ask? Just means I could have worked events such as the Tour De France. A couple of my hobbies include mountain biking, rock climbing, paintball, home brewing beer, and working on my house. I am a licensed Real Estate Agent and an active investor. Most of all I enjoy jamming with my band and working in our studio. I hope some day to turn the reading railroad into an amusement park and restore a couple of city blocks. I also aspire to build a music festival some day. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have 2 children, a son & daughter. I hope to live my life to the fullest and inspire others that I meet to do the same. “Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.” Theodore Roosevelt Why Roofing & Specialty Coatings I was selling real estate for about 3 years when my wife and I had our first child and the second two years later. As the years continued my role in the home front became more in demand. I came to realize that constantly being away from my family nights and weekends just wasn’t giving me the piece of mind that I needed to feel as though I was truly doing the best I could for them. I grew up working with my hands, woodwork being my main skill set through my adolescent years. After high school I spent several years as a carpenter and tinkered in many other fields of construction. I moved onto enlist in the military to where I spent 4 years operating heavy equipment. I always found that I enjoyed working in the construction trades as I continue to do so twenty years later. I have always had a bit of a soft spot for the environment. I have never been an extremist but I have always believed in doing my part to contribute where I can. That’s why I was so inspired by these cutting edge roofing systems At AK Roofing we make it our mission to aid our customers by using cutting edge products. We are environmentally passionate and unlike many of our competitors we believe that unyielding to the methods of yesterday is not necessarily in our or our customer’s best interest. When I was first introduced to fluid applied roofing systems I was blown away by the logic. After rigorous research I was even more blown away by the lack of knowledge of these products in the market place. Many other roofing companies we interviewed knew little if anything about this technology in spite of the fact that it had been around for over 3 decades. We decided to make it our goal to make these products a household name. Since then we have expanded our product line to encompass many types of sealers and coatings and hope to eventually become the company of choice when one thinks of how they can seal and protect there property. Our goal is to make a difference. We do that by choosing products that make a difference, and that gives us purpose.
